The Department of Chemistry Presents: Dr. Marina Sekutor, Senior Research Associate, Ruder Boskovic Institute, Division of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Laboratory of Synthetic Organic Chemistry

In this talk Dr. Sekutor will present recent research activities in the field of preparation, characterization and application of diamondoids and showcase a versatility of this class of diamond-like cage compounds. Examples will be given, detailing the use of diamondoid derivatives as excellent guests for supramolecular hosts like cucurbit[n]urils1 and cyclodextrins,2 but also as good starting points for supramolecular conglomeration and cluster formation.3 Going further, examples of diamondoid monolayer formation on various metal4 and non-metal5 surfaces will demonstrate venues of their potential application as building blocks in nanotechnology.
