The Department of Chemistry Presents, via Online Zoom Presentation:  Dr. Andrew C. Marr, Queen’s University Belfast, N.I., U.K.

There is an urgent need for new science and engineering focused on a more sustainable human society. Catalysis has a major role to play in the evolution of the chemical, water and energy industries. Some key challenges in green catalysis will be discussed. Topics will include combining bio- and chemo-catalysis, valorizing biomass, water purification and catalysis within ionic liquid gels.

Dr. Andrew C. Marr is a senior faculty member in the School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast, N. Ireland. His research is focused on catalysis for green & sustainable chemistry. He studied organometallic catalysis for his PhD under the instruction of Prof. David Cole-Hamilton, The University of St. Andrews, U.K. and started research into biocatalysis whilst a post-doctoral researcher in The University of Nottingham, U.K. under Prof. Martin Schröder. He was appointed to the board of Queen’s University Ionic Liquid Laboratories (QUILL) by Prof. Ken Seddon in 2009.
