Ameer Al Bayati, PhD ’86, the Dean of Students' Affairs at Al Ghurair University in Dubai, UAE, since 2008. Before this, he has occupied various teaching and academic administrative positions in different higher education institutions.

Ruben Altman, BS ’55 got his MD from Harvard in 1961. Since 1965 has been working in internal medicine and cardiology. He has retired from the Iowa National Guard as colonel with honorary title of Brigadier General.

Cory Antonakos, BS ’10, this summer, finished her PhD in chemistry at UC Berkeley, and, this fall, she began her second year in a full time tenure track position teaching chemistry at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Deepanjan Bhattacharya, PhD ’15, is in India and working in the research and development center of a pharmaceutical company.

Benjamin Calvo, BS ’77, is faculty at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine Surgical Oncology with focus on liver and rectal operations. He was previously involved in translational bench top research, now clinical trials. He has three kids in college.

Scott Caplan, BS ’12, is currently working to complete the first total synthesis of a natural product at the University of Pittsburgh.

George Chang, BS ’82, MS ‘86, is currently a urologist at Medstar Washington Hospital Center.

Alice Choe, BS ’01, is an Emergency Medicine physician in Denver, CO. She is married to an amazing guy and has two boys, Conor and Deaglan (almost 3 yr and 8mo respectively). They just bought their first house!

Courtland Davis, BA ’41, in the US Army until he discharged in 1948. Completed post graduate training at UVA and  Duke, in 1952. Joined the faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and retired as Professor Emeritus Surgery/Neurosurgery in 1987. He is currently widowed and living at Arbor Acres Retirement Community, WinstonSalem, NC.

Nelson Ferreira, PhD ’82, lives in Hagerstown, MD. He is a practicing physician in Gastroenterology. He has a wife and a daughter who is currently a medical student.

Larry Fertel, BS ’81, for the past 15 years has been working for IsleChem, a contract manufacturing company in upstate NY which performs process scale up and development work for customers desiring to commercialize products. He still has fond memories of GW!

David Firestone, PhD ’69, is retired from the FDA, having served as senior research chemist and branch chief. He recently left as editor of Official Methods of American Oil Chemists' Society, having also served as president.

Bheru Gandhi, BS ’02, is working at Texas Children's Hospital as a Neonatologist; just got married last March! Life has been good!

Ryan Gualtier, BS ’07, completed his Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Medicine Fellowship at NYU School of Medicine in 2015 and 2016. He is currently a board-certified anesthesiologist on the faculty at NYU School of Medicine.

Michael Hudson, BS ’99, after obtaining a PhD from University of Washington and a couple of other stepping stones, is working at Thermo Fisher Scientific in San Jose working on the Triple Quadrupole MS development team.

Atul Jani, BS ’82, presently lives in Salinas, California with his wonderful wife and two teenagers. He’s a general surgeon in private practice. He obtained his M.D. in 1985 and completed a general surgery residency in 1990 before completing a tour in the Air Force in 1993.

Susanna Keeton-Wilson, BS ’98, recently joined Iron Mountain as the Director of Product Management for a cloud portfolio. Please let her know if you’re in Boston

Mona Khurana, BS ’94, MD ’98, completed a pediatric residency and a pediatric nephrology fellowship. After a 5 year academic career, joined the FDA and is involved in pediatric drug development.

Theodore Kim, BS ’90, is a physician specializing in AllergyImmunology in private practice in Chantilly Virginia.

Robin Krantz, BA ’82, has been married for 28 years to Jeremy Krantz,with 4 children. She is living in NYC & Westchester working as a nurse educator in the pharmaceutical industry.

Jonthan Levin, BS 2006, Ph.D from University of Maryland, Baltimore is now an account manager at Agilent Technology.

Kira Lueders, BS ’62, MS ‘65, is retired since 2005 after working at the National Cancer Institute, NIH for 43 years. Building on her GW degrees, she earned her PhD in biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1975.

Guanghong Luo, PhD ’06, is working at Western Digital Inc., the #1 hard drive maker, as a R/D engineering manager and technologist.

Charles Marshall, BS ’87, is a senior sales rep selling chromatography instrumentation for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Charalambos Menelaou, BS ’96, has a private practice in Aurora, Illinois.

 

Susan Menke, MA ’70, retired as chief technology editor of Government Computer News in 2005, and is happily retired in Catonsville, MD., enjoying kids and grandkids and looking forward to news of Dr. Houston Miller's Arctic adventures.

James O’Mara, BS ’57, MS ‘61, retired from the Rohm and Haas Chemical Co. in 1995 and moved to Florida in 2013.

 

Mario Puccio, PhD, received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor of Chemistry at Ferrum College.

Clare Rowland, BS ’09, having completed a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associateship at the Naval Research Laboratory, is currently an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Michael Samson, BS ’79, with 22 years as an Otolaryngologist, is living on the coast of Maine. He loves boating and tennis. His GW basketball years are behind him. He always appreciates those great years as an undergraduate Chem student!

Bindesh Shrestha, MA ’09, PhD’ 10, is working with Waters Corporation in the greater Boston area and working closely with former mentor, Akos Vertes; collaborating on mass spec imaging projects.

Angela Soto Hamlin, BS ’76, is a surgical oncologist in Harrisburg, PA. She is married with 4 kids and 3 grandkids.

Daniel Tang, PhD ’97, since graduating he has been working in pharmaceutical R&D (Pfizer) and outsourcing industry (QPS, ICON etc). He went back to China in 2007. Currently, he is the CEO of UPP, a pharmaceutical outsourcing company for biologics development.

Maggie Teliska, PhD ’04, has had a busy few years! She and her husband Jon moved to Boston last year. Jon works for a battery startup in Cambridge, has her own business installing power and towers in the telecommunications field. 

Paul Thomas, BS ’48, MD’ 52, was in active duty Army as a Surgeon and retired in 1970 to become an academic Thoracic surgeon. He retired from the University of Illinois in 1993. Since retirement, he has stayed active and busy with Golf, Health Club swimming, Piano lessons, and Library Board Chair.

Jamie Vasquez, BS ’01, was promoted to Associate Laboratory Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration's South Central Laboratory in Dallas, TX in October 2014. Is happily married with a 21 month old little girl and one more due in November.

Cheryl Renee Verdecchio, BS ’07, lives in New Jersey and works as a Relay Control Engineer updating the Smart Grid for the local electric utility, PSE&G.

Mark Vogt, BS ’82, MD’ 86, He then trained in anesthesiology at the University of S.C. Has practiced in Bethesda for the past 20 years where he is Chair, Department of Anesthesia and Medical Director Surgical Service at Suburban Hospital.
