Dr. Falcao brings over a decade of experience in higher education, having taught Chemistry and Biochemistry at institutions including Bard High School Early College (2023–2025), Auburn University (2019–2022), the University of Miami (2014–2018), and Miami Dade College (2013). Her diverse teaching portfolio enables her to interweave complex scientific concepts across disciplines, creating a rich and integrative learning experience.
With a strong commitment to active learning, Dr. Falcao designs student-centered courses that foster engagement, collaboration, and a sense of belonging. She is passionate about creating inclusive environments where all students feel empowered to contribute and thrive.
Dr. Falcao completed four years of postdoctoral research at The Ohio State University and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, where she focused on cutting-edge work involving algal biofuels and vaccine production using algae. Her Ph.D. research explored circadian regulation in algae, specifically the timing of nitrate uptake.
More recently, in collaboration with Auburn University, Dr. Falcao transitioned into educational research. Her current work focuses on improving conceptual understanding in organic chemistry by bridging the gap between molecular models and chemical representations. She is developing innovative, context-driven activities that help students navigate challenging topics like stereochemistry and reaction mechanisms using both 2D and 3D visualizations.
